Webster Dictionary definition of PLEBISCITE: “a decree, to know; an expression of the people’s will by direct ballot on a political issue, as in choosing between independent nationhood or affiliation with another nation.”

PLEBEIAN: 1. a member of the ancient Roman lower class; opposed to PATRICIAN 2. one of the common people 3. a vulgar, coarse person-adj. 1. of or characteristic of the lower class in ancient Rome or of the common people in any country 2a) plebeianism, vulgar, course, common place.

PATRICIAN:
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English patrician, from Anglo-French patrician, from Latin patricius, from patres senators, from plural of pater father — more at father Date: 15th century 1 : a member of one of the original citizen families of ancient Rome 2 a : a person of high birth : aristocrat b : a person of breeding and cultivation— patrician adjective Senators

The above definitions are the foundation of the Great Britain – Canada, US. Look for the Patricians in Canada. The word plebiscite may be used as the new “buzz” word, but it has very serious meaning and undertones.

Where is Michael Mitchell, the councilors of the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne and Jim Ransom taking the community of Akwesasne?
This Plebiscite is being presented to the community, but only the “registered voters of the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne are allowed to vote.

This portion of the community does not constitute the “whole” of the community of Akwesasne. Why is it when such important issues such as the border and our right to cross unimpeded, the community begins to morph into different entities?

First we are one community with no borders, then when it comes time to vote, we morph into a community on the Canadian side or US side. What kind of smoke screen are they putting up and what are they really asking the community to vote on?

Wake up Akwesasne. We are a people and we have a homeland and there were no borders before the Europeans/US/Canadians “discovered” our shores.

The Two Serpents have returned to consume our people into the identity of Us citizens or Canadian citizens. Is this the choice that this plebiscite is giving us? How does our actions affect the other Mohawk communities that make up the Mohawk Nation?

What affect does it have on other nations in the Americas. We could not sell the land because no one nation owned it. It was shared with our brothers and sisters across this land.

We knew ownership… don’t confuse it with individual holdings. Akwesasne, we must consult our brothers and sisters before we vote on anything and we must discuss the various aspects of this issue and how it will affect us and our future.

Don’t make a decision that leaves us walking on the heads of our children and their children! This is a much larger issue than you can imagine. Akwesasne women, do you want your children to loose the rights that you have? … because you “didn’t know” the implications of the hidden agendas of the government of Canada and the United States.

Will you vote because you are inconvenienced, or because you just want the issue settled so that you can get on with your business of the day? Or will you vote because you are not affected by the border issue? How important is it to identify as Onkwehonwe – the people of the land.

I post this here so that researchers can find this, as they need it. Akwesasneron keep hearing that Mohawk government is planning to do something with a Plebiscite. Onkwehonwe that never had much interest in politics before, are wondering what a Plebiscite is.
